Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hey guys!

Sorry this is exactly the right thread but I figured it is close to each resort so worth a try!

Can anybody recommend a snowboard instructor for me this jan please?

I enquired about Steve McDonald but he is busy unfortunately.

I will be in La Ros 10-17th and Les Arc 17-24.

Good English is preferable but not essential.

I will also have my skiing partner with me who could do with some tuition so if they are familiar with both that would be a real bonus!

@Astontech, I really wouldn’t put you off contacting either ESF or Evolution 2 both are strong in those resorts and offer private lessons .

Just to confirm there was a large avalanche today in the Marquise sector that crossed the Blue run , the avalanche started on the ridge above no confirmation if it’s was triggered . Four people were successfully rescued from the slide caught I presume skiing the blue run , I understand unharmed but not confirmed .
The area is covered by dynamite lines that would have been blasted post the recent snow fall .

@Le Grand Renard, I understand it was triggered by a skiier who'd traversed over from the Aiguille lift, he later reported hinmself to Piste patrol. Four recovered of which one injured but thankfully not serious.

The image in the article highlights the slide, but you can see it actually starts above the rock band over the circled area.

its a very steep section, lots of ski lines to the right of it, so those people were lucky

fortunately no fatalities. lots of snow given its width and length.

I don’t know this resort, but judging from the photo, I think this slope is really dangerous. Above the slope, I can see many tracks from freeriders.

I'd be extremely unimpressed if I were one of those skiers caught on the piste. Should have been closed no if the risk is really that high? I find the combo of Avi 4 or 5 conditions combined with only a few piste closures quite perplexing ...feels like there is pressure to keep things open which is a dangerous position when such large amplitude releases are happening.

@belette, the avalanche you are referring to was in Jan when the Avi was 3 . The avalanche which damaged the top lift, in a different area was this weekend when the slope was closed it hasn’t been open for two weeks

That's a disaster for the resort - taking out the best red & black runs and a lot of the off piste Shocked we're driving down in 2 weeks time, so I'm glad we'll have the car to head off to the other Tarentaise resorts, but we usually like a few days in SF Sad

@Le Grand Renard, Happy to do that, but it’s normally a day out and a long lunch on the Terrace at The Marquise - which I could still do without troubling the heart rate too much Laughing

That's a bit of a nightmare for the resort isn't it. Certainly one of my favourite areas to ski in Ste Foy. Hopefully they will get sorted and not have too many people 'switch' resorts for the last weeks of the season, and therefore compound the issue with lost tourist revenue.

I've got mine crossed. I have a 16 day ski trip to the Alps and the first two were going to be at Sainte Foy. The upside for me though is there's an embarrassment of riches for other ski options in that area.

Thanks to you both for the updates - I’m pleased for the resort that everything should be in full working order for Easter, but sorry it won’t be completed before we leave Sad Also currently in Ste Foy and it’s very sad to ski past the base of Aiguille and see the demounted chairs - it was all too evident that nothing was happening soon.

The new Pylon was being Helicoptered into place this morning, much happiness in the station for some whilst those who like to earn their turns have rather liked the inaccessibility of the Val du clou .
