2 British men in the top 7, 3 running in the second leg....fantastic!!
and one sitting in the no1 seat, Laurie Taylor, whilst several other racers went down, only just to be pipped for a podium place.
it must of been the knowing nod i gave him when i passed him at the snow show the other week
i follow his you-tube channel avidly

Brilliant from Laurie Taylor. Surreal to see GB racers 1st and 3rd for a while on the 2nd run leaderboard.
I loved the very biased commentary from Emma and the guy (I’ve forgotten his name).
Dare I mention …. great value from TNT this weekend with the rugby, Shiffrin, Taylor and Ryding.

Yes , very good result for them, and especially the local lad who I hadn’t seen before but they’ll be dancing in the streets in Rio.
Had the bizarre scene for reasons I didn’t understand of Austrian tv asking Clement Noel questions in English and him answering in German. At least the Q&A with the Finn was all in English.
@ster, The ORF interview with Noel was more bizarre than that. Noel often does these interviews in German but the interviewer said to him, "I'll ask you the questions in English and you can answer in German or English ..." only to then ask the questions in very fast German, to which Noel smiled and replied, "Was that English?!" Both had a laugh about it and then she asked him again, this time in English.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Really sad to hear Lara most probably will miss the rest of the season. With Fede and Petra still out women skying is going to be a Shiffrin show. Wishing LG a prompt recovery

Sounds very grim for Lgb. @Harrow lady, I'm not sure where she was skiing but a face book feed said she will not see her "go to" surgeon until Sunday.
This is possibly career end......

A big shame for Lara Gut-Behrami, in what was to be her last season. A real shame if that's how it ends!
Womens SL skiing desperately needs Petra Vlhová, just to add some competitiveness back, otherwise it could be a complete trouncing by Shiffrin this season. The GS circuit is a bit more competitive so isn't just a virtually guaranteed win for Shiffrin.
A good men's SL this morning, I think it's the first time I've watched every racer in run 1. Super tight with the cut off under 1.5 seconds! Lots of mentions about the snow conditions, Braathen clearly showing more annoyance than the others in his interview!

Great 2nd run, seems as though most had figured out the snow/equipment set up more so than the first run.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

FIS World cup piste? Why are the ladies on a rough training track. Unbelievable!
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Just caught up watching my recording of today’s Hochgurgl WC slalom. Colturi, Holdener and Rast appeared as good as faultless, then GOAT Shiffrin destroyed their times.
Team Shiffrin were proved spot on with that very long rehabilitation last season. Forfeiting the World Championship and yet more crystal globes, playing the long game.
You know it makes sense.

Wow...did anyone notice Marco won not Aleks? He was a real winner today

Takes some guts to come back to speed events after such a bad injury and so long off.
Really tight at the top, more of the same in way with Odermatt winning, but it was really close with Kreichmayr.
Very strong results for the Austrians in general with 4 in the top 6!

Brilliant skiing from Odermatt at Beaver Creek. A class above the rest, so smooth over the ruts.

Late start and a bit murky today. Cant be pleasant.
That over 2s advantage shown to Kreichmayr after the first section was a bit optimistic.
Have they moved the finish up or is that the downhill course marked after the finish?

@ster, the finish in Thursday DH and yesterdays SG are both higher because the organisers were concerned at the lack of snow to go right down to the normal finish area.
TNT aired live training runs from St Moritz yesterday, Women’s downhill. Including a horrible crash by Michelle Gisin, you could hear her crying out post crash. Hope she makes a full recovery.
She is such a great all-rounder. Hopefully she makes a full recovery.

Was quite interesting listening to Shiffrin's podcast she did with her physio, they discussed how they approached the recovery last season

Not sure if we're allowed spoilers in this thread, but could be an interesting result today in the DH.

St Moritz isn't the most exciting of downhills by any stretch but I was absolutely gobsmacked by that winning run.

I had wondered if the training run on Wednesday wasn't truly reflective of times with people holding back, but it seems it wasn't!

Funny when commentators call it wrong. Mid run Charlie Guest poo-poo’d LV’s performance with a downcast “I wonder if she’d bringing these turns too much to a close” …. at that moment timing revealed LV had gained 0.8s in that sector alone.

Not having watched that yet. Did they reveal a cautious approach, playing the very long game? It wasn’t the worst ski injury, yet effectively Shiffrin threw away any hope of retaining a load of crystal globes, by an ever so slowly return last season.
Paying dividends this season!

@Snow&skifan, not the worst injury, but it did quite a bit of damage to a fairly important part, plus the psychological impact. They key was all about building strength back in the right way.
I don't think that "threw away" is anywhere near the right words

I heard that and I was a bit like wtf! Especially having watched the French Eurosport broadcast that was far more encouraging and enthusiastic for Vonn!
Even Nick Fellows on the FIS ski tv stream was enthusiastic - and back on TNT even when Vonn won very little excitement from Guest - Maybe there was jealousy!
But Chapeau to Vonn for a stellar run, for the belief in herself and the determination to come back and show the world she is a generational talent.
To put it all into numbers:
2 x ACL tears
1 x MCL tear
Multiple Shin fractures
9 knee surgeries - including a full knee replacement
6 years away from the sport
2,829 days since her last win
Also the post race interview with Svindal is excellent - especially when Vonn joins in!
A truly remarkable result by Vonn yesterday. As @extremerob's post above identifies, she has had numerous injuries and surgical interventions, 6 years away from the downhill racing then comes back at age 41 and wins in St.Moritz, beating the 2nd place racer by over a second! Phenomenal result.

I was skiing with some friends this morning and we stopped for a mid morning break and watched the first 15 women. Great race again, Aicher absolutely smashing it, awesome run. Looking forward to the SG tomorrow.
A good GS too I've just caught up on. Luca Aerni could well have won it if it wasn't for that mistake in run 1
