Poster: A snowHead

Possibly in the wrong section, I don't know.
I'm looking for a pair of ski's. I'd describe my ability as advanced intermediate, and want a pair of ski's that will I'll be able to progress on. I don't want the ski's to be holding back my capability.
Ski mostly red runs without any bother.
I've seen a cracking deal on a pair of 09/10 model Watea 78's. Anyone got any opinions on whether these would suit, or give me an alternative ski?
I'm pretty much all on-piste just now, but i want to feel able to go off now and again. Not talking wildly off-piste, just off the piste a wee bit.
Edit: Do I want twin-tips?

Probably ideal.
The only reason you'd want twins is if you want to do a lot of switch (backwards) skiing. If not, then no...

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

But without going too TGR, this might be better in the equipment section of the forum.

I weigh just short of 12 stone: 165ish pounds I guess/ 76kg.
They are 167cms
I'm 6ft 2"
cheers, I'll have a look at those too.

I think they might be too short for you. I'm no sort of expert, but if Wateas are the Fischer equivalent of Missions (which I believe they are) then you want a longer ski as they "ski short". I am 182cm and ski on 178 Missions.

I'd never be able to turn on 178's, it would be like trying to turn with an artic lorry trailer on each foot!

At 5 foot 9 and 72kgs, I'd be looking at mid 170's for that sort of ski. The tail is slightly upturned, so effectively you're skiing 2/3cm shorter than stated length.

Oh, righto. There are some 174's about.
A lot of thr reviews of them seem to point them more towards off than on-piste. As much that I'm questioning their ability to provide a good enough experience on the groomed stuff.
Valid statement, or a load of rubbish?

Oldmacdonald, I use a pair of watea 78 for skiing with my daughter and am about the same weight/ height as clarky999, and they are 174, you don't want any shorter, but they don't ski as short as a mission as they don't have the long tip. They are excellent in soft snow, and bumps, (my daughter likes bumps a lot!) and float suprising well in powder for a narrowish ski, not fantastic on piste in really hard conditions, they are not torsionally stiff enough so need to be very sharp and don't go too quick. At higher speeds they flap and feel a bit unstable
If you want a piste bias ski there are better, but for bumpy stuff they are excellent and generally mucking around on the edge of piste / shallow off piste with bushes and other such stuff about, which is what my daughter and i do all the time well suited. They are also very light. Of all my sking i have probably had the most fun on these.

FWIW I thought very similar to carroz with the Dynastar Sultan 85s, without the flapping. But I had them in 165 (they were a warranty replacement) which was too short (I wasn't so aware of ski tech when I bought the previous skis) so got rid of them. If they were the 172s or 178s, I would propbably have kept them.
Especially in bumped and cut up pistes they were absolutely brilliant, but for pure pistes there are better skis. The Sultan 80s should be better, but as they have no metal in them they'd be a bit softer, which put me off them.
