Poster: A snowHead

A schoolboy in Sweden was attacked last week by a hibernating bear. He had stumbled into the animal's lair, while skiing at the Funasdalen resort. The startled bear attacked the boy, who managed to escape and was rushed to hospital where he is recovering from serious injuries. ...A police spokesperson said the bear was found but not shot because it was not a threat to civilians.

The bear fled into the woods, leaving her cubs to fend for themselves. There are now concerns that the cubs are at risk of starvation, if their mother does not return soon.

the report said he stumbled into its bedroom; you'd probably have been a bit bad-tempered too.

I was puzzled by the cubs bit - I thought hibernating meant sleeping, not giving birth to and nurturing cubs.

Hurtle, apparently Brown Bears (not sure about others) give birth during hibernation, the mother bear may not even wake up whilst giving birth.
I have a nasty suspicion (based on knowing what small boys can be like) that maybe the stumbling into the bears den by accident might not be entirely truthful, mind you only an idiot wakes a sleeping bear, only a huge idiot wakes a sleeping bear with young cubs

Im just wonder, what was the boy realy doing? The boys was locals, they live in Funäsdalen skiresort, When I was living in Härjedalen, where Funasdalen belongs, we know were the bearcaves was, and if there is a cave near the skiarea, Im complete sure the locals know. There is no reason to be scared for bears, there is in Sweden little more than 12 bear attack every year, 95% its hunter with dog that are attacked from the bear, the dog running after the bear, the bear starts to be angry, and run aftre the dog, the dog hide behind the hunter

Er, my point was meant to illustrate that it couldn't have attacked him if it was hibernating....Woken from hibernation, surely?
