Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

French work gloves

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I've seen a lot of instructors and guides using beige leather work gloves with a sheepskin-type lining, rather than fancy tech fabrics.

A guide last year was swearing by them and said that they are quite cheap to buy from Mr Bricolage (France's B&Q).

However, that shop doesn't seem to have an online store and a search of UK online sites hasn't showed any results.

Does anyone know if these gloves are available over here?

sproggski, They are also available at B+Q, e bay and in good UK garden centres. Far better than the fancy technical gloves and so cheap I bought 3 pairs but so far have only used 1 pair. I got the leather soaking wet in the rain before Xmas but my hands stayed dry and they were bone dry by morning. Very Happy

Not so much choice on ebat today Confused

I went to St Sorlin D'Arves a couple of times and in bad weather the ESF guys used to wear some big rubber gauntlets. If they came out in the morning with these on and huge red raincoats you knew you had to worry about the weather.

The more you think about it, they are leather so wind proof, rip/snag proof, shower proof (waterproof up to a point) and with a fleece lining, what more do you need in a ski glove? What more do you get in a glove 5 / 10 times that price?

In the US - many seem to think it way cooler to wear work gloves than ski gloves to the extent that technical brands now sell gloves designed to look like work gloves.

The only thing they seem to lack is as much wrist protection as a ski glove - I would imagine that you might get a gap where sleeve meets glove and maybe snow could get in easier - but apart from that they look fine.

+ breathable

I suppose you could get some leather stuff (nubbin?) to rub in and that will go a certain way to waterproofing a bit more

I saw some of the nice cheap leathery ones in B&Q when shopping for gardening gloves before Christmas (yes, that sad) and the only drawback I could see was the potential (IMO likely) gap between glove and sleeve. Evil or Very Mad

Does any snowHead know where you can buy sleeve gaiters to reduce this problem?

Ive been wearing the Kinco Snow Shepherd gloves for 2 seasons now. Fantastic, warm, waterproof, breathable and very very durable. Best ski glove Ive ever had
Do look a bit bright when new, but that soon wears off and the knoited cuff keeps your wrist warm. They ere warmer than my Hestra Army Ski gloves and far more dextrous. Just use Nikwax learger and glove waterproofer on them and dry they will stay. Been nice to not have the normal soggy inners due to sweat

jbanfield, Welcome to Snowheads, nice first post wink wink wink

I usually avoid posting on threads with links to my shop, but hey ho Toofy Grin

The French Gloves need treating to make them waterproof, this also makes them much warmer.

I found out last week, from Amiee from Holland, on the Pre Season Bash that, that they are branding my gloves with a nice large logo for their chat forum, so thought it would be cool to ask the many SH's if they would like a nice brand on the gloves??

Could be "Snowshepherd"

or something like "Love" on one and "Powder" on the other

or many be a Snowhead logo over to you admin????

ps this is a hot brand like a cattle branding

livetoski, love the branding idea - should be simple enough to offer a (limited) choice, shouldn't it? I'll go for a few pairs with 'LOVE/HATE' on the knuckles and 'POWDER/SLUSH' on the respective wrists.

P.S. a clip on stretchy wrist cord option would be nice too.

So .... the option is not to buy the cheaper gloves?????

I give you my very, very valuable branding input and all I get is product placement?!?!?! Fie, sir. FIE!

JUsta thought - when branding merrily away you could also just punch a hole in the top of the cuff and loop a hoop of leather lace through the hole to lock onto itself. The knot in the hoop would seal the hole and you could adjust the size by adjusting where the knot was in the hoop.

(p.s. - if I buy any more ski realted gear and the g/f finds out I'm dead meat. If I get the special branded gloves you are going to have to describe them as 'tools' or something so she does not find out {taps side of nose and winks})

Go by the wrist of your jacket. The venitex are thick and woolly at the wrist the Kinco thin and elasticated. I like my wrist able to fles so for me the Kinco are best. Do you want your jacket inside or outside your gloves, done up tight or left open?
