Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

America's rich pay $250,000 for 'parking spaces' in Sun Valley

 Poster: A snowHead

Wealthy visitors to Sun Valley, America's original ski resort and still very fashionable, are paying up to $250,000 to secure 'parking spaces' opposite their favourite lift station. The spaces come with appartments in an "ageing Bavarian-style building', each of which is only 265 square feet.
Such is the demand for this prestige parking that many of the appartments - referred to by some as 'ski lockers' - remain empty, used solely to gain the parking perk...

This report by The New York Times.

Sun Valley opened to skiers in 1936 and was the site of the world's first chairlift, immortalised in the movie 'Sun Valley Serenade'. Here's a great article, and photos of that chairlift, from Sun Valley Guide.

How does Sun Valley's skiing rate - any comments from those who've skied there?

Sun Valley is a truly great mountain. I didn't have to park there when I skied it (last in 1979!), but the mountain was very, very nice. Snow was good, great incline all the way to the lifts (no run-out, more like Aspen than some of the other areas that I've skied). Show-off runs under the lift and open bowls off the top.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I went there 7 times on the trot back in the 80/90's . Great Hill & Town. Hope to be going back there in March as it looks like a good season this year.

I never used my Car there. There is a Free Bus service (KART) to both sides of the Hill & up to the Sun Valley Lodge. If you stay in downtown Ketchum you can walk round the town with no problem.
Restaurants are great (good choices)especially The Pioneer Saloon . Whisky Jacques is a happening night spot as well. The Buffalo (think it was called that) is the place for Breakfast.
