Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Murren's Inferno to go ahead

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Despite the Schilthorn currently being out of reach due to a cable problem, the inferno, the oldest downhill race, will still go ahead. Swiss info report that the race route has been altered, missing out the steep start section, and will involve a climb for the competitors...

Quote:

The amateur competition is still scheduled for January 22 but the approximately 1,800 skiers will begin the race below the usual starting gate, missing out on some spectacularly steep and narrow sections.

Competitors will have to walk uphill for about 15 minutes before they can put on their skis and speed down the slopes.

The organisers say they will try their utmost to prepare a racetrack to the village of Lauterbrunnen at the bottom of the valley to make up for the shortened upper section.

I wonder if there'll be anything in the rules preventing you leaving your skis up there the night before?

Does missing the Kanonenrohr (sigh of relief!) compensate for having to tuck all the way to the very very bottom (sighs of exhaustion!).

Elizabeth B, it is possible to ski or board to Lauterbrunnen. One of my friends did it on Wednesday, but did have to cross a couple of roads near the bottom...

Just got back from Lauterbrunnen. We only went up to murren the once (yesterday) and the run down was closed. They're is just about enough snow to ski it, but they're asking people not to, as they need it top make the inferno workable, and are about to move a load of cannons onto it.

WTFH, where about in Lauterbrunnen did you stay?
