Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi,
I've used Salomon X-Wave 8 boots (335mm - 29/29.5) for the last few seasons and found the ideal. I'm about to order some new boots via an instructor offer and found they no longer exist.
Am I right in thinking that 'Impact 8' is the replacement and does any one know if the fit is the same ?
Cheers
David

According to SnR catalogue, ".............the X-wave 8 has just gotten better with the introduction of its fresher, better replacement, the impact 8....................."

not sure if i would say it fitted the same.... it is the closest thing in their range to the X wave, but IMO there is a little more volume around the mid foot and a little less over the instep

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

CEM, I'd agree, first impressions of the impact range are not favourable. They are too soft. If you want to replace an X-Wave 8 with a similar flex you'll need at least an Impact 10, and they don't go higher. I'd jump ship and get me a Nordica Speedmachine 12/14, the shape is pretty similar and the rebound is amazing.

Interesting, as CEM knows, I am carefully nuturing a pair of much-loved x-waves - hope to get another season out of them - then I guess I'll be looking around for a replacement, too. Wonder why Salamon had to replace something that was good.

After skiing in mine for about 10 hours on the dry slope, have to agree with that statement, they do take a bit of getting used to after XW10's, but the flex pattern is much more progressive and rewarding.

CEM, SMALLZOOKEEPER, Cheers guys - I've just changed the order to the 10's.

SMALLZOOKEEPER, CEM,
They arrived and seem to fit OK.
I see that they have a couple of 'lock' bolts toward the rear / heal of the boot behind the canting adjustment. Are these part of the canting adjustment or do they to simply stiffen up / lock the flex ?

david@mediacopy, Provide stiffness, higher vertical axis and faster rebound. They're less than half the boot without them.

SMALLZOOKEEPER, Yep, I've just popped them on and they are reasonably soft, at least in the office. I've not bothered checking them without the lock bolts.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
