Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all,
Hopefully (pending working holiday visa application) I will be spending this winter season (and the following summer season) in Canada.
For the summer season I plan to stay in Whistler and mountain bike/take photos. For the winter season however, I'm not really sure where I want to go. A friend did a season in Fernie and really enjoyed it, but there is also Banff, Kicking Horse, Big White etc. etc.
Can anyone suggest where I should go? I would be interested to know people's experiences of different places in Canada and also if anyone has any tips on anything that might be useful (jobs in particular) then please fire away....
Thanks in advance,
Tim

Tim, if you get a visa, Whistler has a job fair in October.
You can find more info about jobs on www.Natives.co.uk

I'm told Big White is the place to be - I know someone who's been teaching there 2 seasons now and is bringing a friend with him next season too. Thinking of paying a visit myself next year...

Western Canada has a number of good resorts, but a majority are all pretty small. Although that really isn't an issue for a couple of weeks, if you are planning a season I reckon Whistler's size and variety of terrain means it always comes out on top for me.
'm sure wherever you go , you'll have a great time but if you're out in Whiswtler early you should get first dibs on jobs/ accommodation which is a definite advantage.
Enjoy

Get yourself to Castle Mountain at every opportunity. It's better than Fernie IMHO.

Also road trip to the other resorts in the area, and take the day trip to Big Mountain, Montana with Mike & Liz from Ingahms

PhotoTim, just out of interest, why are you going out to Canada?
I'd love to up sticks and do something like you're intending but it's a case of having the bottle to do so. Are you leaving a job in the UK to go out to Canada ot is it a case of you'd rather work somewhere else than the UK?
It's a brave move that I'd love to make...

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
