Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Was running today every time I went by it, but not open to the public. They were digging out the area around the bottom station as well.

Been getting withdrawal symptoms since coming back from the new year trip, so resorted to editing some video. I'm not a great videographer/skier/editor but thought I'd share it here anyway...crtique welcome (but don't be too harsh)

As mentioned previously, I stick to Blues but 'Sources' is a Red that I fancy trying.

Which bits of the run make it a Red ? From the video, it doesn't look much different to some of the Blues.

I do remember one tip about riding up to RdM via the Blanchets and Carella chairs in order to check that the one part of Sources wasn't iced up.

AsterixTG, Amazing! Looking at Webcams, nothing running at Montchavin or Montalbert - not even a drag.
But obviously colder, with snow now covering the Montalbert car park.

ukredsox, Source used to have a steep narrow bit with rocks. Some years back they sent the bulldozers down it and changed the run: widened it, and took out the rocks.
It does now run Blue for most of the way, but the section that starts at 2.00 on the video is the old steep rocky bit: it is still rather steeper than all before or after, and does often contain a few skiers who wish they had gone down The Tunnel or Carella instead.

Merci

I think the "steep narrow bit with rocks" was the part of the run that I was told to check out from the chair. That was a few years ago and on recent visits to LP the conditions haven't been good enough to consider an attempt at 'Sources'.

Now that bit of the run doesn't look much more testing than the drop down as you turn left on 'Mira'.

Hopefully I'll be able to give it a go at the end of the month.

@ukredsox, That 'bit' can be horribly icy and mogulled with idiots straight running it whilst you fight the your way through it. Or it can be a nice smooth well pisted section! As you say it just depends on the conditions, most of the time it is nicely pisted.

Yeah, even over the course of the week you could see how much his skiing had improved. He's off to Canada again in February too so will be a pro by the time we're at EoSB.

quick question re ski schools in la plagne/belle plagne specifically.

holiday organiser was saying that it was wise to prebook any private lessons required in advance as they get booked up quickly in la plagne - i would rather play it by ear and see how the kids get on after the first day and take it from there

surely a resort of la plagne has plenty of capacity? or am i better to get the wallet out again now lol

would be looking for a 3 hour lesson on the 29th jan if that makes any difference

appreciate the pointer boredsurfin! specifically was interested whether in yr opinion its essential to prebook, or whether you could expect to book for the following day once physically in resort?

my son was a good intermediate by the end of our last holiday but this was a couple of years back now so i want to see whether he needs a refresher or not/to what extent before i book anything up, ideally....

Arriving in Les Arcs to start skiing Sunday, if you had one day to explore La Plagne where would you go? As skiing solo it'll be on piste, although typically ski all mountain. What classics and hidden spots and pistes have you got? Ta in advance.

@Christopher, looking at the forecast IF everything is open - head down to Montalbert through the forest tracks and then back up the Gondola (6mins) and find your way to the Forperet restaurant for lunch - it’s on the Gentil piste. After lunch head on back - watch the last lift times to avoid stress!!

@essexskier,
Re ski lessons, try Christophe Lagu at Reflex ski school

There is teaching capacity in La Plagne, but if you want a better service, best to pre book with the school you want.

Well, i'm stuck in the apartment with Le Grippe.
Outside its been snowing steadily all day.
Quite windy earlier, but snow now falling straight down.
I imagine all on-piste is actually effectively off-piste.
And another 60cm forecast for tomorrow! Shocked
Son and girlfriend are out doing circuits round Montalbert and La Roche - lovely runs through the trees.
Think they must be having fun coz not a peep since early this morning.
That, or they're submerged in a snowdrift.
Ridiculous amounts of snow.

@Jonpim, Oh no! Well we got here in a rented BMW1 series- should have known better! Not too clever on the wet slushy icy snow, with the help of snow socks over the snow tyres, rubber mats and several locals, managed to get it up to my parking space by the lift! Trouble was the snow was so wet the spinning wheels simply melted it into slush on top of the underlying ice! There is indeed ridiculous amounts of snow - so much that our local bar owner has given in and bought a snow blower to clear his terrace!

Been ill or working recently but went out for lunch today in Centre and took some photos of the snow - thought I'd share!

The path between each side of the shopping area -

[url=https://flic.kr/p/FwT7uN]

The building is the Tabac - I've never seen steps up to the area in front of it!!

[url=https://flic.kr/p/22A36dj]

Usually the terrace is only a foot or two below the snow front!!

[url=https://flic.kr/p/JHWmRt]

No view of the mountains from the ground floor apartments Shock

[url=https://flic.kr/p/E1JaEk]

At least you can just about see the signage for Scotty's even if you can't see the bar!

[url=https://flic.kr/p/JHWmdp]

It's normally 2 or maybe 3 steps down to the terrace!

[url=https://flic.kr/p/E1J9J2]

There's usually an access path through there -

[url=https://flic.kr/p/22A33Vd]

Can't clear the terrace with shovels at the moment (well, they use the snowblower and shovels!!)

Saw a post on FB on 11th Jan which said the base at 2000m was 503cm. The second deepest base since records began in 1987. Apparently. We reckon it must be more than 5metres now!!!
